The official opening of the School of Advanced Horticulture took place on 17th December 2019 in the Conference Hall of the Maritsa Vegetable Crops Research Institute (MVCRI). The school is a joint initiative of the Center of Plant Systems Biology and Biotechnology (CPSBB) and MVCRI in the frame of PlantaSYST project.

Dr T. Gechev, coordinator of PlantaSYST and director of CPSBB welcomed around 25 undergraduate students, majoring in plant protection at Agricultural University in Plovdiv. He acquainted them with development, progress and perspectives of the Centre.

The school begun with a lecture “Virus diseases on main vegetable cops - contemporary methods of diagnostic and identification” presented by Dr. G. Pasev. The lecture was part of the major topic “Resistance to biotic stress”. The emphasis was put on serological and molecular methods for diagnosis and control.

The course in “Resistance to biotic stress” will continue in February with Workshop, entitled “Application of serological and molecular techniques for identification of viral pathogens – Double-antibody-, triple-antibody- and plate-trapped antigen-ELISA; PCR-based methods”.
