Resurrection plants and regeneration of bones: Eastern European biotechnology in the spotlight
-
29 May 2020, The KETBIO webinar, part of KETBIO – HORIZON 2020 funded project aiming to support and drive the optimization of the commercialization of biotech research within Europe, showcased the latest developments from the Eastern European biotechnology. The focus was on two ongoing Teaming project: PlantaSYST and BBCE (Baltic Biomaterials Centre of Excellence), dealing with innovations in the field of plant-system biology and biomaterials, respectively.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vasil Kolev and Assist. Prof. Dr. Veselin Petrov from the Center of Plant Systems Biology and Biotechnology (CPSBB), project PlantaSYST, presented how CPSBB integrates molecular biology, functional genomics, metabolomics, bioinformatics, bioprocessing, and long-standing expertise in practical plant genetics and molecular breeding, to unravel the plant biology and to translate the scientific knowledge into new applications in agriculture and medicine. Dr. Kolev hase discussed the project approach, involving inter alia resurrection plants, that can survive extreme water shortages in air-dried state for years.
